I have two sons (born 2009 and 2012) and have worked as a school doctor since September 2013 at the BG/BRG Lerchenfeld. During my studies I dealt with complementary medicine (see diplomas and trainings). I worked as a Mayr doctor at VIVAMAYR in Maria Wörth after maternity leave.
Duties of the school doctor
The duties of a school doctor have changed in the past years. I am responsible for examinations of the students, providing first aid and being a contact person for students, parents and teachers. I help in different situations such as family problems, drugs, alcohol, smoking, violence, etc. Any problem can be discussed and all conversations underlie medical confidentiality.
Physical education exemption
If someone is not able to attend physical education lessons, he/she has to bring a sick note. If someone is not able to attend physical education lessons for more than two weeks, then the school doctor has to write a sick note. If a student is injured, documents from the treating doctor must be brought by the students. Exemptions for physical education must be submitted before hand not retrospectively.
If students do not feel well during the school day, they come to me and I will treat them. Please note that sick students should not go to school. They should stay at home!
Vaccination counselling is offered but only external doctors of the health office vaccinate students. Vaccinations are not done without a signed consent form or against the will of the student!
If there is a suspicion of drug abuse the following principle applies: “Help instead of punish”. In school, particular rules and processes apply in which the school management, the school doctor, the parents and the school psychologist are included.
Smoking and alcohol
What do you win if you do not smoke or drink alcohol? Breathing freely, beautiful skin, more money, higher performance, …
What are the benefits of not smoking?
